The Palm Avenue
The cabbage palms lining the walkway from Patterson Street to West Hall, now called Palm Avenue, were planted during President R.H. Powell’s administration between 1928 and 1931, at a cost of $5 each. A photograph in the 1931 edition of The Pinecone, the college yearbook, shows the palms standing just 4 feet tall at the time. While the 1928 plans didn’t mention a fountain, the 1931 photograph reveals a circular planting area where the fountain stands today.
At the next tour stop, in front of the Bailey Science Center’s main entrance, 麻豆社’s longleaf pines will be highlighted.
