Camellia Trail
As you walk through this section of our longleaf pine stand, you’ll find the Jewel Whitehead Camellia Trail. Mrs. Jewel Whitehead wasn’t formally connected to the college, but she lived just across the street and had, in her words, "an insatiable desire to create something beautiful." In 1944, she proposed the idea to beautify a well-worn path through the pines by planting camellias along its edges.
If you’d like to hear more about Mrs. Jewel and her beloved camellias, feel free to join the Camellia Trail Tour as we make our way to the next stop. The next location on the Historical Plants Tour is just beyond the end of the trail, near Palm’s Dining Hall.
