24 Mid-1920s Local civic leaders offer trustees of what is now known as Emory University a solid deal to establish a campus in Valdosta. This consists of 43 acres of land, located across from the present home of South Georgia Medical Center at the intersection of Patterson Street and Pendleton Drive; a distinctive, white-columned building that houses classrooms and administrative offices; and a $200,000 endowment. September 26, 1928 Emory Junior College at Valdosta welcomes its first all-male class of students, a total of 50 freshmen. Tuition is $50 per quarter. Because there are no on-campus residence halls, students reside in the privately owned College Inn, in family homes throughout town, and on the campus of Georgia State Woman’s College, which eventually becomes known as Valdosta State College in 1950 and Â鶹Éç in 1993. 1930 Emory Junior College at Valdosta celebrates it first graduating class of 16 students.
