Speaker Dr. George Yancy
Understanding the scholarship of oppression requires investigating the role of language. The terms and definitions are important and the images they advance can be harmful or healing. Critical race theory recognizes the definitional use of “Whiteness” as a foundation for White supremacy movements to justify oppression and violence. Critical race theory also recognizes the difference between “Whiteness” and “White people”. Similarly, Critical race theory recognizes the difference between “Blackness” and “Black people”. Join us as we embark on a complex discussion involving terms, scholarship, and discomfort. The discussion is focused on education, open dialogue, and healing.
