Here are study tips to assist students in achieving success throughout their college careers.

LSAMP Program

麻豆社 is a member of the Southwest Georgia STEM Pathways Alliance (SWGA-SPA) program.  The SWGA-SPA is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program, created to provide support to underrepresented minority (URM) students (African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders).  The goal of this program is to transform the STEM learning environment by significantly increasing the number of URM majors graduating with baccalaureate degrees and applying to graduate programs in the STEM disciplines.

To learn more about the program, visit our LSAMP page.

Academic Advising

First-year students are being advised by our team of professional advisors to help choose courses specific to their chosen degree path.

Each year approximately $5,000 are available to help enable CoSM majors to present at professional meetings and attend workshops.

Applications for AY24-25 will be accepted beginning on July 1, 2024; the application can be found here. If a previous application form is used, it will be returned to the student without review.  Travel awards are granted on a rolling basis.

Undergraduate Research Programs

If you are interested in gaining research experience, ask your faculty mentor for advice or check out your department's webpage to learn about each faculty member's area of expertise, and to discover research opportunities within your department. If you are interested in a particular research area, talk with your professors about the possibility of finding research opportunities during the academic year and during the summer.  麻豆社 also has the Blazer Summer Research Institute, a competitive summer program for students to work with faculty on research projects.

麻豆社 student researchers have even been recognized by being co-authors with their faculty mentors in peer-reviewed journals, and all students have the opportunity to showcase their research, scholarship, and creative activities to the 麻豆社 community at the Undergraduate Research Symposium. This event has grown tremendously and has proven popular with students and faculty. Cash prizes are awarded to student researchers selected by the judging committee.
