Double Reed activities at 麻豆社 have expanded greatly in recent years and become an integral part of the Department of Music. Headed by Dr. Susan Eischeid, oboe; and Dr. Nina Scheibe, bassoon; the Double Reed Program has hosted Double Reed Days, an annual Double Reed Studio Recital, performances by double reed chamber ensembles on Departmental recitals, a double reed Facebook page, and double reed faculty recitals. Oboe and bassoon students are afforded the opportunity to perform on english horn, oboe d'amore and contra-bassoon and have weekly studio classes in reed-making, orchestral excerpts, instrument maintenance and repair, ornamentation, how to handle nerves and performance anxiety, mock orchestral auditions, and performance and educational activities post-graduation.

All woodwind students are encouraged to audition for the professional Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and varied chamber music groups.
