Records Unit
About the Records Unit:
The Records Unit serves as the central archive for all incident reports within the jurisdiction of the University Police Department. This includes police reports, vehicle accident reports, criminal activity reports, and State Uniform Traffic Citations. The Records Division ensures that all criminal reports are accurately entered into the Records Management System, which is crucial for generating monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports. These reports are used by other department personnel to assess crime trends on campus, allowing for targeted attention in high-incident areas. The Records Division is also responsible for compiling and maintaining statistical data to comply with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 and the Jeanne Clery Act of 1998.
A daily crime log, listing all crimes reported to Campus Police, is available for public viewing in our lobby. Updates to the log are made within two business days of an initial report, with exceptions in cases where legal disclosure is prohibited, the confidentiality of victims must be protected, or the release of information would compromise an ongoing investigation.
Records Requests:
Requests for incident or accident reports can be made to Open Records. Once a request is submitted, a response can be expected within three business days.
Law enforcement personnel looking for records or information related to criminal cases may reach out to the Records Supervisor, Sgt. Rebecca Leatherberry.
