About this field
Nurses play a crucial role in the medical system, treating and caring for ill patients, preventing illnesses, assisting doctors, and promoting health and well being. Nurses work in a variety of settings including hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics, schools and other environments in which medical care is rendered. Students in the 麻豆社 nursing program develop critical thinking skills, gain an appreciation for diverse cultural perspectives, and learn how to address policy disputes and social problems related to health care. Upon graduation, Valdosta State nursing students assume leadership in the fields of nursing and health care, making a positive impact on their communities and touching people’s lives every day.
The Valdosta State Difference
Students in the Valdosta State College of Nursing and Health Sciences work with highly trained faculty and take rigorous coursework in the field in their quest to become licensed nurses. Students have access to facilities and equipment specially designed for nursing students, including METI Simulation Labs. The state-of-the-art labs give students an invaluable opportunity to practice their skills with simulated patient encounters and help students develop critical thinking skills and enhance their clinical judgment abilities. Students in the program also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by collaborating with health care partners throughout the community.
What You'll Learn
Students in the baccalaureate program in nursing take a series of sequenced courses that emphasize the connections between the concepts of holism, caring, competence, health and teaching/learning. The program is approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing and provides a major measure of eligibility for the national licensing examination in nursing, which can lead to use of the title Registered Nurse. Students who have a bachelor’s degree or higher in a non-nursing field of study may qualify for the Accelerated B.S.N. Program for Second Degree Students track of study.
