About this field

The Master of Music Performance (M.M.P.) program at 麻豆社 is a rigorous, performance-based, graduate degree that seeks to train student-musicians into professionals. Marked by individualized attention from its renowned and dedicated faculty, students gain experiences in performance, scholarship, and pedagogy through intentional mentorship aimed at fostering the holistic development of each musician.

The Valdosta State Difference

The M.M.P. program consists of 36 credit hours of academic and performance-based courses, including a minimum of one graduate-level recital. Graduate students play a vital role in various ensembles at 麻豆社 such as the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Blazin' Brigade Marching Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble, among others. Graduate students in the music department gain leadership skills as they model for undergraduate majors their professionalism, depth of knowledge, and musical maturity in ensemble settings. Many graduate students also provide service to the department and college by working as Graduate Assistants, through which they receive practical, hands-on experience that not only bolsters their professional profile, but also prepares them for a successful career in music upon graduation. At the conclusion of the degree, students must complete and pass the Comprehensive Exam, which includes a written and an oral component designed to be a synthesis and summation of the students' coursework during their tenure in the M.M.P. program.

What You'll Learn

After completion of the M.M.P. program, 麻豆社 students have progressed on to successful careers as professional musicians or have pursued doctoral degrees or performer's certificates at elite institutions across the United States.
