Brittany Closson-Pitts grew up near Orlando, Florida (though she currently resides in Spartanburg, South Carolina). She received her M.A.T. in Social Science Education from the University of Central Florida and her Ph.D. in International and Multicultural Education from Florida State University. Brittany has taught PK-12 in Brevard County, Florida, as well as online through the Florida Virtual School. She has also instructed and advised undergraduate and graduate students within the Educational Leadership & Policy program at Florida State University.
Brittany’s research interests center on the interactions between gender and sexuality within higher education, with her dissertation work focusing on the lived experiences and identity-making of queer undergraduate women at a Southern university. In addition to her dissertation research, Brittany has worked as a research assistant with the National Center for Scaling up Effective Schools, Whole Child Leon, and the Florida McKinney-Vento Program Evaluation Project. Her work has been published in several academic journals, including The International Journal of Social Research Methodology, Gender and Education, Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, and Feminist Media Studies.
